another freaky weather system is kicking in and it looks like we are going to get warm springlike conditions for the remainder of the week. i guess the silver lining in this is that the warming snow may trigger a lot of natural avalanches, helping to break down the weak underlying layers. I imagine the alpine avalanche risk will get even higher until things cool down again.
was up yesterday and rode peak to peak for the first time. it gives you a great overall sense of the mountain layout but also exposes a few of those formerly hidden spots. took my first turns on blackomb this season. still longing for real winter conditions...

Hey Mark,
Any advice for a rider of groomers on best places to check out in the midst of this melty stuff next week? I'm assuming A.M. is better than P.M.--but does it ice up in the morning? Appreciate all of the posting this season--my vacation expectations have been tempered, but hopefully that'll just set me up to be pleasantly surprised?!

hey maxwell,

the valley has been icing over at night, but there is a strong inversion meaning that it is staying well above freezing at the roundhouse level. i haven't been up this week, but i would probably start high and work down the mountain throughout the day as the valley temp rises. the lower mountain will likely be a sheet of ice every morning. 7th heaven might be worth a shot in the AM.

Great to know. These temps are nuts! Will definitely look to start around 7th Heaven if possible. Thanks--and keep up the good work. (Probably goes without saying, but I'd be happy to buy you a beer while I'm in town...)
